Last Blues / Jets Game

The Blues took the lead four times during Friday night’s contest and the Jets tied the game up each of those four times, but it was David Perron who gave the Blues the final lead of the night as he scored in overtime to down the pesky Jets 5-4.

Fun Blues Facts…

  • Perron’s overtime winner on Friday was his 4th overtime goal of the season, which leads the NHL this season and set a Blues franchise record for most overtime goals in a single season. Perron also has a share of 1st in the NHL with 6 game-winning goals, which is also a career-high.
  • The Blues have also scored a power play goal in 4 straight regular season matchups against Winnipeg, going 4 for 11 (36.4%) in that span.
  • @Jaden Schwartz has a 5-game point streak (2g, 7a). @Alex Pietrangelo has a 3-game point streak, all of which have been multi-point games (3g, 3a)

What They’re Saying…

“I don’t know why, I’ve just had success here,” Bozak said after Friday’s game. “It’s close to home. Maybe that’s why. But it’s always fun coming into a building like this with really good fans.”
Bozak is from Regina, in the neighboring province of Saskatchewan.

It’s not just team history that Perron made himself a part of either. He is only the second player in league history to score four overtime winners before his team’s 40th game. The other player is Jonathan Toews, but we won’t focus too much on that part, even though it took him 39 games as well.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets are a perfect 6-0-0 in afternoon games this season, including 3-0-0 on the road. The six wins have tied a franchise record for most wins in afternoon games in a season, which was also done during the 2002-03 and 2016-17 seasons. Winnipeg plays 14 afternoon games this season, which is the most in a season in franchise history.
  • There are four players on three-game point streaks, led by @Patrik Laine’s five points (3G, 2A) in the past three games. @Kyle Connor (3G, 1A) and @Mark Scheifele (1G, 3A) have four points, while @Neal Pionk has three assists.
  • Patrik Laine is averaging a goal per game against the Blues during his career with 13 goals in 13 games.
  • Kyle Connor has seven goals in December after netting four in October and six in November.

What We’re Saying…

It’s no surprise that goaltending is the biggest thing to watch for in this game. With a wild 5-4 game on Friday night, both netminders were beat consistently throughout the game. Hellebuyck specifically let in a soft goal to open the game and he will need a bounce back performance if the Jets want to win this game.
Hellebuyck has been known to handle adversity with excellent performances which makes this a big storyline heading into the game.
