JN Flight Plan: Jets Take On Islanders As They Look To Right Some Wrongs
The Jets are in a bit of a funk having lost a couple of bad games at home so far this week. They’ll get a chance to right the ship tonight as @Ville Heinola returns to the lineup and @David Gustafsson stays in for another game as they look to avenge a loss to the New York Islanders from a couple of weeks ago.

Last Islanders Game
The Islanders took advantage of a road weary St. Louis Blues this past Monday when they came back from a two goal deficit by scoring a couple of goals in the latter half of the third period to tie things up, and then get a @Devon Towes overtime winner a little over a minute into the extra frame.

Fun Islanders Facts…
- New York Islanders Head Coach Barry Trotz coached his 1,608 game on Sunday vs Winnipeg, passing Islanders Hall-of-Fame coach, Al Arbour for third most all-time in the NHL.
- In Monday’s win over St. Louis, 19-year-old forward, Oliver Wahlstrom became the second teenager to make his NHL debut this year for the Islanders.
- @Anders Lee is currently riding an eight-game goal streak vs Winnipeg, dating back to the 2015-16 season.
- From our friends at OddsShark.com – NY Islanders are 3-7 Straight Up in their last 10 games.
What They’re Saying…
The power play was dreadful last season. With a 14.5 percent efficiency, they ranked 29th in the NHL. With a 27.3 percent efficiency rating through the first six games of the season, the Islanders have the seventh-ranked power play in the NHL.New PP coach Jim Hiller seems to be having an immediate effect. The Islanders are shooting the puck more. They’re decisive in possession. And we rarely see that “super-dump” zone entry.
New York Islanders Early Positive and Negative Takeaways – Eyes On Isles
Over the past 10 years, Trotz’s teams have managed a score adjusted Corsi of 49.78% and an expected goals percentage of 50.57%. That’s an improvement of around 0.8 percentage points, far lower than the 2.0 percentage points the Isles managed in 2019. If the Isles’ shot quality over-performance drops accordingly, the Isles are going to see a significant drop in overall numbers, or a couple wins worth, which in the tight Metro Division may be too much.

Last Jets Game
Another lackluster effort on defense and very poor penalty kill did in the Jets halfway through their game against the Arizona Coyotes who won in Winnipeg for the first time since the Atlanta Thrashers moved north.

Fun Jets Facts…
- In the 2019 calendar year, the Jets are 13-8-2 on home ice, but have lost five of their past six home games dating back to last season.
- Jets head coach Paul Maurice is one victory away from 700 wins. His 699 career wins is seventh all-time in the NHL. He’s third in wins among active NHL coaches, behind Joel Quenneville (892) and Islanders coach Barry Trotz (813).
- STREAKING: Mark Scheifele has scored in three consecutive games and is riding a five-game point streak. Josh Morrissey had two assists on Tuesday to extend his team-leading assist streak to four games.
What We’re Saying…
The Jets have already had a tough time playing defense with their undermanned unit when playing at even strength this season. So, the Jets will need to find a way to play more disciplined to elevate a lot of the pressure they face when their team takes unnecessary penalties.
