JN Flight Plan: Dallas Stars At Winnipeg Jets
By Thomas Hall
4 years agoThe Winnipeg Jets are breaking out the old-school blue heritage jerseys tonight – last seen by fans in Regina in what would be Winnipeg’s second biggest victory at Mosaic Stadium this year – against the Dallas Stars and this game could have a bit of an old-school rough and rugged feel to it as the Jets and Stars have already met twice over the past few weeks in November and start off December with a home and home series.

Last Stars Game
Following a goalless first period, the @Minnesota Wild and stars traded punches through the second and third periods, with each team scoring a pair of goals prior to the end of regulation. Since neither team could find the back of the net during the five minutes of three-on-three, this game entered into a shootout where captain @Mikko Koivu recorded the game-winning goal.

Fun Stars Facts…
- Entering tonight’s game, the Stars own the highest offensive zone FOW percentage (56.5%) in the entire league.
- Through 28 games this season, the Stars have won 12 games when they’ve scored first, which is tied for second in the league for that category.
- During this game, the Stars may find it tough creating shots on net, as the Stars have generated the second-most blocked shots (435) throughout the league, including 19 during their previous game against the Wild.
What They’re Saying…
After averaging 3.9 goals per game in their hot stretch, the Stars have managed just three goals in their three-game losing streak. But Dallas coach Jim Montgomery isn’t hitting the panic button just yet.“I think we have too many good hockey players,” Montgomery said. “I know a lot of people’s numbers aren’t where we’d like them to be, but if we play like that I’m pretty sure we’re going to score four goals on most nights.”
Landing Taylor Hall would represent a major get for the Stars. It also seems plausible for a front office with several other win-now moves already under their belt. With veterans the likes of Ben Bishop (33), Alexander Radulov (33), Jamie Benn (30), and Joe Pavelski (35) on the roster, the idea of letting a promising season slip by is a risky proposition. If Nill and Co think this team could make some noise, why not reinforce an obvious area of need? Strictly in terms of performance impact, the move is a no-brainer.
Last Jets Game
After a dominating opening period from the @Los Angeles Kings, where their team scored a pair of goals in the first, the Jets failed to create anything on offense until the final period of the game. Just four minutes into the third period, forward @Jack Roslovic sent the initial bobbled the pass from defenseman Tucker Poolman, into the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. However, Winnipeg wasn’t able to score a late goal to send this game into overtime.

Fun Jets Facts…
- Along with the Jets averaging the fewest number of penalty minutes per game (6:04), they’re also tied with three other teams for zero shorthanded goals, which is obviously the fewest in the league.
- So far this season, the Jets have produced a total of four goals during three-on-three play, which is tied with the @New York Islanders and the @Carolina Hurricanes for the most in the league.
- MILESTONE WATCH: @Mark Scheifele enters this game just five points short of his 400th career point.
What We’re Saying…
Tonight for the Jets it will be 11 year veteran Anton Khudobin opposing them. Khudobin 6-4-1 this season with a .931 save percentage, but against the Jets he’s seen limited time and even more limited positive results. In four total appearances against the Jets, Anton is 0-2-0 with a .895 save percentage. As for the Jets, it’s Hellebuyck in goal of course. Bucky has a career 8-5-1 record against the Stars with a .921 save percentage.
