JN Flight Plan: Jets Divisional Stretch Continues Against Avalanche

The @Winnipeg Jets close out a relatively successful home-stand against another division rival in what could be seen as a true measuring stick game for this club. The @Colorado Avalanche raced out to a 7-0-1 record through their first eight games, but have cooled off a little bit in dealing with a few key injuries to their roster.

Last Avalanche Game

Trailing 2-1 in the second period, @Cale Makar notched the equalizer at 10:52 and gave Colorado the lead for good just over six minutes later as he became the first Colorado rookie defenseman to tally two goals in a game. Pavel Francouz made 39 saves for the Avs victory.

Fun Avalanche Facts…

  • Cale Makar leads all NHL rookies in scoring with 17 points (4g/13a) in 17 games. He also leads all first-year players in assists and is tied for second in goals (as of Nov. 11). Makar is the fourth defenseman in NHL history to collect at least 17 points through his first 17 career regular-season contests.
  • Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL with 86 shots. MacKinnon recorded a career-high 12 shots on Nov. 1 vs. Dallas, tying the single-game franchise record set by @Gabriel Landeskog on Jan. 9, 2019 at Calgary. It is the most shots by an NHL player in a game so far this year.
  • The Avs were the NHL’s last undefeated team (5-0-0) and the last team without a regulation loss (7-0-1). Colorado’s 7-0-1 (15 points) start was its best through eight games in franchise history, and the eight-game point streak to begin the campaign was the second- longest to start a season in franchise history (9-0-2 in 2000-01).

What They’re Saying…

“The Colorado Avalanche have a trio of goalies now, and that’s a so-so thing. Starting goalie Philipp Grubauer is day-to-day with a “nagging” injury he suffered in the Dallas Stars game. The coaching staff has said he’ll go on the road trip, but no news yet on when he’ll be available to play.”

Last Jets Game

@Patrik Laine scored on the Dallas Stars – as he typically does – and the Jets were able to pick up yet another overtime win thanks to 26 saves from Connor Hellebuyck.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • On Sunday, the Jets improved to 6-0-1 this season in overtime games. The seven overtime games Winnipeg has played is tied for second in the NHL. Since relocation in 2011, the Jets are 24-15 in home games that go to overtime.
  • Tonight marks Winnipeg’s fourth game of the season and second in a row against a Central Division foe. The Jets are 3-0-0 against divisional opponents this season after wins against the @Minnesota Wild and @Chicago Blackhawks in October.
  • The Jets remain the least penalized team in the NHL this season with an average of 4.4 penalty minutes per game. Winnipeg has taken just 36 minor penalties in 18 games this season, which is less than half the 82 minor penalties the NHL-leading @Calgary Flames have taken.
  • MILESTONE WATCH: @Nikolaj Ehlers is one point away from 200 in his NHL career. @Blake Wheeler needs four points to reach 600 as a member of the Jets franchise.

What We’re Saying…

The Jets have dominated in the faceoff dot in two of their last three games, as their team has produced a 60% or better FOW percentage during those pair of games. Specifically, third-line center Adam Lowry has been outstanding in the faceoff circle over the past few games. In the game against the Devils on Nov. 5, Lowry generated a 65% FOW percentage and a mindblowing 85% FOW percentage against the Stars back on Sunday.
