JN Flight Plan: Jets Continue Road Trip vs Islanders

The Jets continue their road trip as they’ve made a nice little home in New York. Even though they start the year on a four game road trip, they won’t have to leave the Metropolitan area as they play all of their games within a short distance from their hotel. Just days removed from a huge comeback victory, the Jets hope they don’t have to play from behind as they take on the Islanders.
Fun fact: “The total has gone OVER in 6 of Winnipeg’s last 9 games on the road.” – from our friends at OddsShark.com

Last Islanders Game

The Islanders opened up their season on Friday night as they hosted the Capitals. It was a low scoring affair as both teams scored once in the first before TJ Oshie scored late in the second. Oshie’s goal would hold up as nobody could find the back of the net in the third period.

Fun Islanders Fact…

  • Entering his third NHL season, Mathew Barzal has led the Islanders in points and assists in both of his first two years with the team. Barzal, 22, ranks sixth among all 2015 draftees in assists, despite playing 73 fewer games than the next closest person ahead of him.

What They’re Saying…

The 2019-20 Islanders are a pretty familiar bunch.
This is true throughout the lineup but especially up front where 11 of Friday’s 12 forwards appeared in at least one game for New York last year. The only change to speak of is a swap at the third-line center position: free agent Derick Brassard was signed to a one-year deal replacing the departed Valtteri Filppula (who signed a two-year deal to rejoin the Red Wings).
New York Islanders Organizational Deep Dive: The Forwards – Lighthousehockey.com
For once, Islanders fans can gripe like most fans do – about winning and losing, the refs, ice time, bad penalties, defensive pairings and power play units. No longer do fans have to be embarrassed by ownership, management or the arena (soon enough).”

Last Jets Game

To be honest, this game still has us reeling. The Jets found themselves down 4-0 midway through second period before mounting a comeback in the third period. The Jets managed to tie it up and bring the game to a shootout where Blake Wheeler scored the winner.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • Nikolaj Ehlers recently hit two career milestones this season by scoring his 200th point against the Rangers and suiting up for his 300th game against the Devils.
  • Patrik Laine has scored on every single team except three: San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Islanders.

What We’re Saying…

“The Jets seem to have shifted styles this season as they have been trading chances with the opposition rather than sitting back and playing tentative. It’s been suggested for a while now that Winnipeg should focus on a high event style because of their superior skill and shooting talent. Trading chances with the opposition can be dangerous, but the Jets have the right mix of players to pull it off.”
