JN Flight Plan: Detroit Red Wings At Winnipeg Jets
By Thomas Hall
4 years agoThe Winnipeg Jets are back at home and set to see a familiar face as former Jets prospect goalie @Eric Comrie will get the start for the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Bell MTS Place. The Jets also get a bit healthier tonight as @Gabriel Bourque has been cleared by doctors and will be on the fourth line.

Last Red Wings Game
From start to finish, the Red Wings were dominated by the Penguins during their 5-3 defeat. Following a pair of goals in the first frame, Pittsburgh began the second period with a two-goal lead. Entering the third period, Detroit trailed 3-1 and couldn’t overcome their early deficit, despite a late goal from forward @Dylan Larkin.

Fun Red Wings Facts…
- Entering this game, Detroit has recorded the most losses (14) in the league when their opponent scores first.
- Overall, the second version of this Jets franchise and Red Wings have played each other 26 previous times, with Detroit winning 14 of those matchups.
- MILESTONE WATCH: Forward Dylan Larkin enters this game short just four goals for his 100th career goal.
What They’re Saying…
Eric Comrie entered the game in relief for Jonathan Bernier with 10:38 left in the third period. It was a rough outing for Bernier. He allowed 4 goals on 19 shots, a good portion of which he should of had. This was Comrie’s first appearance in net since being acquired by the Red Wings back on Nov. 30.
Last Jets Game
Despite the @Anaheim Ducks’ poor record, their team created a heavyweight tilt against the Winnipeg Jets. Throughout the game, both these teams traded punches, with the winning blow coming with less than five minutes remaining in the third period. Thanks to a game-winning goal from Scheifele, the Jets were able to surge past the Ducks.

Fun Jets Facts…
- Entering tonight’s game, Winnipeg has allowed the third-most shots on net per game (33.2), including 33 shots during their previous game against Anaheim.
- Given where the Jets sit in the Central Division, it’s surprising to read that their team is tied for the third-most losses (4) when they score first.
- Coming into this game, captain @Blake Wheeler sits just two assists away from 400 for his career. The Jets’ captain is also just eight points away from tying forward @Ilya Kovalchuk for the most total points (615) in Thrashers/Jets history.
What We’re Saying…
The man-advantage has been a real struggle all season long as Winnipeg sits near the bottom of the league in terms of powerplay percentage. When digging into the numbers, Winnipeg is an interesting case. They generate shots fairly well (10th in league) but drop in terms of xGF (18th in league). The most interesting part is that even with the 18th most xGF, Winnipeg sits 22nd in actual goals with 14.
