JN Flight Plan: Chicago Blackhawks At Winnipeg Jets

After taking it on the chin against the @Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, the Winnipeg Jets are hoping to get things right against a @Chicago Blackhawks team that certainly thought they’d be a lot better this season than they have been. Watching the Blackhawks this season has been like watching what the Jets were expected to be before the season started, top heavy in talent but not very good overall.

Last Blackhawks Game

The Hawks as mentioned played last night at home in Chicago and it didn’t go very well as the Avalanche pretty much dominated from start to finish. The Hawks did put up a bit of a fight in the first period, but @Ian Cole and @Mikko Rantanen each chipped in a pair of points to help down the Hawks 4-1.

Fun Blackhawks Facts…

  • The Blackhawks face the Winnipeg Jets on the second night of a back-to-back today, their seventh such game this season. Chicago is 6-1-0 in the second game of back-to-backs this season,
  • Chicago has three rookies in the top 12 in goal scoring among first-year players in the NHL.
  • Tonight will be NHL game 200 for @Alex DeBrincat who celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday. DeBrincat ranks sixth all-time in Blackhawks history in goals (77) before his 22nd birthday and eighth all-time in Blackhawks history in points (152) and assists (75) prior to the age of 22.

What They’re Saying…

After tonight’s loss, alternate captain, @Duncan Keith, spoke up about the state of the Chicago Blackhawks. It was a nice surprise, because Keith doesn’t give many emotion-filled answers. When arguably the most humble guy on the team speaks his mind so freely and honestly, his words really hits home.

Although the analytics might say otherwise, @Dennis Gilbert has been a refreshing addition to the blue line. In his last seven games, the 2015 third round draft pick has led the team with 25 hits and three drawn penalties.

Last Jets Game

The Jets played a couple of nights ago at home in Winnipeg and it didn’t go very well for them..

Fun Jets Facts…

  • With a win tonight, the Jets can earn three wins in their fifth consecutive five-game segment and six of their seven five-game segments this season.
  • The Jets are 5-2-1 against divisional opponents this season. @Kyle Connor leads the Jets in scoring against the Western Conference with 22 points (9G, 13A) in 20 games, while Mark Scheifele has a team-leading 10 goals.
  • Winnipeg has won six games in a row against Chicago and seven of the past eight games. They have scored 35 goals in the past eight meetings with the Blackhawks, including 20 in the four games last season.

What We’re Saying…

@Blake Wheeler has been racking up the points ever since coming to Winnipeg. In fact, Wheeler is second in Thrashers/Jets all time points behind only the great @Ilya Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk scored 615 points with the club while Wheeler is currently sitting at 614. Is tonight the night that Wheeler ties or potentially surpasses Kovalchuk?
