JN Flight Plan #70: Arizona Coyotes @ Winnipeg Jets

The @Winnipeg Jets continue to get healthy as @Adam Lowry makes his return to the lineup after missing almost two months worth of hockey, and not a moment too soon as the Jets need all hands on deck for a final playoff push that resumes tonight against a team that’s in the middle of the Wild Card race with them, the @Arizona Coyotes.

Last Coyotes Game

@Oliver Ekman-Larsson extended his point streak to three games with an assist, @Taylor Hall recorded his fifth multi-point game, but it wasn’t enough as the @Calgary Flames got out to a two goal lead halfway through the game and then held on for the 3-2 regulation win over Arizona.

Fun Coyotes Facts…

  • The Coyotes enter tonight ranked sixth in the NHL with an 82.6 PK% and have the best PK% (84.0%) in the NHL since the start of the 2018-19 season.
  • Coyotes’ defensemen have scored nine power-play goals which is tied for the fourth-most in the League with the @Minnesota Wild.
  • Oliver Ekman-Larsson is one goal away from posting his seventh consecutive 10 goal season and would become the first defenseman in franchise history to accomplish the feat. Dave Ellett is the only other defenseman to have six consecutive 10 goal campaigns.
  • Arizona owns an 18-13-1-3 all-time record vs the Jets franchise and are 6-9-1-2 on the road.

What They’re Saying…

I think the biggest issue facing the Arizona Coyotes moving forward is not overacting from another season outside of the playoffs. While we thought that the Arizona Coyotes were going to be ending this season in the postseason, the timing just did not work out.

“This is the time of the year that matters the most,” Keller said before the team boarded a flight to Vancouver on Tuesday. “Who cares what happened before this? This is what you train for and why you do the extra work in the summer. That’s all I’m focused on right now.

Last Jets Game

The Jets raced out to a 3-0 lead and never really looked back as Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 29 shots sent his way and stunned the @Vegas Golden Knights with a 4-0 shutout win.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets have won five consecutive home games to improve to 19-14-3 on the season. It’s their second home winning streak of five games this season.
  • Winnipeg has outscored their opponents 55-36 in the 17 games, which is the fewest goals allowed in the NHL in that span.
  • The Jets are 14-0-1 this season when Laine has multiple points in a game.
  • Kyle Connor is one of three players in the NHL to score at least 30 goals in each of the past three seasons and his 101 goals during the past three seasons is tied for 10th in the NHL.

What We’re Saying…

The Winnipeg Jets are the most dangerous when they play with speed through the neutral zone. While that may sound like an obvious statement, it was extremely evident in the victory against the Golden Knights. The first goal was a perfect example as @Nikolaj Ehlers used his speed to pull everyone towards the crease. He pushed it out in front and got a lucky bounce because of the defensive players rushing to the net to prevent the scoring chance.
