JN Flight Plan #54: Nashville Predators @ Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets conclude their three game home stand tonight, but it’s not like they’ll be gone for very long as they’ll be in St. Louis on Thursday before heading back home for six more games after. Tonight’s game is a big one as the Nashville Predators are in town and it will be a great chance for the Jets to put a tiny bit of distance between them and the Preds in the standings. A loss of course would vault Nashville over the Jets and take away any good feelings we had from Saturday’s win over the Blues…

Last Predators Game
The Vegas Golden Knights came into Nashville and pretty much dominated the Predators from start to finish. Pekka Rinne did what he could to keep his team in it, but it wasn’t enough in the end as the Preds get shutout 3-0.

Fun Predators Facts…
- The Predators are 25-16-(1)-4 all-time against the Jets franchise, including a 10-8-(1)-4 record on the road. Overall, Nashville has earned at least a point in six of its last 11 meetings with Winnipeg (5-5-1).
- Roman Josi tied the Preds franchise record for assists and points in a game with five on Feb. 27, 2018 at Winnipeg. He has 20 points (3g-17a) in 27 career games vs. the Jets.
- The Nashville Predators named John Hynes the third head coach in franchise history on Jan. 7. Nashville’s Jan. 7 game vs. Boston was his first as head coach of the Predators; his first victory came on Jan. 9 at Chicago. He is 5-5-0 as head coach of Nashville.
- Roman Josi is one point from 400 in his NHL career. @Calle Jarnkrok is two assists from 100 in his NHL career.
What They’re Saying…
Going into tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, there’s no time left to waste opportunities to make up ground in the race for a playoff spot. The Nashville Predators desperately need to win games over Western Conference opponents. A huge opportunity to get on the doorstep of a playoff spot was wasted the last time out for the Predators on Saturday night when they were shut out by the Vegas Golden Knights. It was collectively one of their worst performances of the season.
“At some point, we’d like to bring an outdoor game here,” Bettman said at Bridgestone Arena, prior to the Preds hosting the Maple Leafs. “If we can do it on Jan. 1, because [Nissan Stadium is] available, then that would be a good thing to do, particularly since [Nashville-based] Bridgestone is the sponsor for the Winter Classic. If the logistics of having stadium availability can’t be worked out [on New Year’s Day], then we’ll come for a Stadium Series game, provided we’re allowed to use the stadium.”

Fun Jets Facts…
- Saturday’s win ended a five-game losing streak for the Jets. It was just the third five-game losing streak in 498 games since Paul Maurice became the team’s head coach during the 2013-14 season.
- Kyle Connor has scored three empty net goals, while @Patrik Laine and @Blake Wheeler each have two. Wheeler leads the Jets with five points (2G, 3A) on empty net goals this season.
- The Jets have scored in the first period in a season-high four consecutive games. The most goals the Jets have scored in the first period of a game this season is two, which has happened nine times.
- @Jack Roslovic scored twice on Saturday to establish a career high with 11 goals this season. His previous high was nine goals last season and he’s two points shy of the career high 24 points he had last season. Roslovic has four goals in his past seven games.
What We’re Saying…
As mentioned above, these two clubs are only separated by one point in the standings. Heading into the game, Winnipeg sits tied with Chicago for the first spot outside of the playoffs as they both have 56 points. Nashville is sitting with 55 points but have played two fewer games than Winnipeg has.Essentially, if Nashville beats Winnipeg tonight, they pull ahead of the Jets by a point and continue to have two games in hand on Winnipeg. Not a good situation for the Jets.On the other hand, if Winnipeg wins, they move three points ahead of the Predators which gives them a little breathing room even though they’ve played two more games.
