The Jets week long three game home stand concludes tonight with a visit from the surging Tampa Bay Lightning who were struggling quite a bit earlier this season, but have been on fire as of late having won 11 of their last 13 games played.

Last Lightning Game

The Lightning couldn’t overcome stretches of sluggish play as the Minnesota Wild snapped their four game winless streak by defeating the Bolts 3-2

Fun Lightning Facts…

  • The Lightning are completing their ninth of 15 back-to-back sets. The Bolts are 5-2-1 in the second half of a back-to-back this season.
  • Tampa Bay has held their opponents to 25 or fewer shots in five of their last six games.
  • Some of Tampa’s top players have enjoyed success against the Jets. @Steven Stamkos has recorded multiple points in three-straight contests vs Winnipeg (3-3–6) @Nikita Kucherov is on a three-game point streak against the Jets (1-3–4) @Ondrej Palat has points in five of his last six games vs the Jets (2-5–7) and @Brayden Point has points in five of his six career games vs. WPG (3-5–8)

What They’re Saying…

“I’m not sure where this idea started and I don’t have any reasonable way of figuring that out. But it’s been around for seemingly the entirety of this recent run of success under Jon Cooper. If I had to guess, I’d say this is a narrative grounded in very little other than the idea that skilled, high scoring teams must inherently be bad defensively. Or, if I want to be a little more charitable, maybe it stems from the blue line being the obvious roster weakness through the first several years of Jon Cooper’s tenure.”

Last Jets Game

The Jets were out-shot as per usual, but @Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves for his 16th career shutout as Winnipeg shut down the Vancouver Canucls 4-0.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets are 9-3-2 this season when getting two or more days rest, compared to 16-15-2 when getting one day or less of rest. They are also 4-0-1 on Fridays this season. One other bit of positive history working for the Jets? Since the franchise relocated to Winnipeg, the Jets are 12-6-5 against the Lightning.
  • The Jets are 9-9-1 against the Eastern Conference this season, including 5-4-0 against the Atlantic Division. Winnipeg plays four of their next five games against Eastern Conference opponents.
  • Kyle Connor scored twice on Tuesday to extend his team leading goal total to 24 in 47 games. He’s 10 goals shy of the career high 34 goals he scored last season and is on pace for 42 goals this season.

What We’re Saying…

While some fans haven’t been too happy with Winnipeg’s struggles at home this season, Hellebuyck’s great play is one reason to show up to Bell MTS Place and watch this team play. In addition to his great play, Hellebuyck also passed Pavelec for the franchise record in shutouts. Hellebuyck recorded his 18th career shutout to give him sole possession of first for the franchise.
