JGD 54: Will the Jets finally win three straight games?

After two convincing wins against the Chicago Blackhawks and the St Louis Blues, the Winnipeg Jets look to win a third consecutive game for the first time this season in tonights matchup against the Dallas Stars. As of now, the Jets sit three points out of a wild card spot and while that seems within arms reach, a handful of other teams are in the same boat as well. One of those teams is the Dallas Stars, who the Jets have a chance to gain some ground on tonight.
Puck drop is slated for 7:30 pm CT and you can catch the game on TSN3 and as alway, you can tune in to TSN 1290 radio for all the action.

  • The big headline ahead of tonight’s matchup is the return of Mathieu Perreault. Perreault has been held from action since suffering an upper body injury on January 23rd.
  • Perreault will suit up alongside Nic Petan and Chris Thorburn on the teams fourth line. Perreault can create opportunities and drive possession, which could work well alongside Petan, who plays a similar kind of game.
  • The Jets forward lines tonight showcases a more balanced attack, with four-solid lines that Paul Maurice can trust.
  • Two of the Jets most crucial defenceman are starting to find their offensive games. Jacob Trouba has seven points in his last six games and Josh Morrissey has tallied four points in his last three games.
  • The Jets goaltending situation continues to baffle me. Continuing to turn to Pavelec, despite strong showings from Hellebuyck, is going to eat away at Hellebuyck’s confidence. The proper way to go is running the duo on a rotisserie basis. Relying on Pavelec far too often isn’t the smart move for the present, or the future.

  • Tonight’s matchup has the potential to become a high scoring affair. Ondrej Pavelec currently has a .893 save percentage and Kari Lehtonen has a .904 save percentage. Coupled in with the fact that both teams are in the top ten of goals for, tonight’s game could be an entertaining one.
