It’s not quite NHL playoff hockey in May or even AHL level playoffs in the spring, but Jets fans still have a chance to see a handful of Jets players as they play in the IIHF World Championships taking part this year in Cologne, Germany and Paris, France.
Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, and Eric Comrie are all wearing the beloved red and white of Canada. Jacob Trouba, Andrew Copp, and Connor Hellebuyck make up another trio of Jets who are representing Team USA. Last but not least everyone’s favorite Great Dane, Nik Ehlers is skating for Denmark.
Here, we’ll recap the daily exploits of their teams and their individual performances:

CANADA ROLLS ON

Team Canada is now 3-0 in the tournament as they handily beat down Belarus by a 6-0 score.

Nathan MacKinnon continues to dominate things as he has five goals in the last two games, following up his hat trick effort on Sunday with a two goal performance in this game. Calvin Pickard had a fairly easy 13 save shutout win.
From the Jets perspective, Mark Scheifele was held pointless while Josh Morrisey picked up a helper on Claude Giroux’s goal in the third period.
Canada now gets a couple of days off before facing one of the two hosts teams, France on Thursday.
Also of note: WinnipegJets.com had a great feature on Morrisey’s international experience and is well worth you time reading!

TEAM USA RESILIENT IN WIN OVER SWEDES

The Americans fell a goal behind three different times in their game against Sweden but managed to even things up every time and then took the lead late in the third period in a dramatic 4-3 win.

J.T Compher was the hero in the end for the Americans scoring a little over midway through the third period, but it was the efforts of Johnny Gaudreau who scored in the first and second periods to keep the US in the game.
Jacob Trouba picked up an assist on the first Team USA goal potted by Clayton Keller. The goal came a little over a minute after Sweden had opened the scoring in the game.
USA’s record improved to 2 -1 and keeps them near the top of Pool A. They get a day off tomorrow before taking on Italy on Wednesday.
