Jets Sign Dylan Samberg To Three Year ELC Deal

The Winnipeg Jets have announced the signing of one of their highly regarded prospects, defenseman Dylan Samberg. The deal is a standard three year Entry Level Contract with an annual average value (AAV) of $1,175,000 and begins next season (2020-21).
Samberg was a second round, 43rd overall pick by the Jets in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and has spent the last three seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs where he won two national championships with the team and was hoping for a third in a row before the global pandemic of COVID-19 had hit. The commitment to stay three years in the NCAA had some Jets observers worried that Dylan might pass on signing with the Jets, but given that the Jets and Samberg’s camp had been in talks with each other even well before he was drafted, those fears may have been overblown.
“Last time I saw [the Jets] was at the combine” Samberg told JetsNation. “They’re a good group of guys there. I had a good interview with them. It seems like they run a really good organization there, so I’m excited to get that under way”“I knew there was some teams that talked to me a lot more and had [better] possibilities in some areas”. Samberg added. “I kind of thought about it, and there was a definite chance to go here and I did”.“I’m Maybe two or three years [away from playing in the NHL]” Samberg admitted. “I’d definitely like to get a degree in college as something to fall back on. If I’m ready to move on with my game and I’m confident about that, though, I’ll definitely look into it”.
While Samberg was drafted on the promise of being a big, physical defenseman, his puck moving and overall offensive development have really come along over the last couple of seasons. This past season was his best yet with highs in assists (20) and points (21) in just 28 games played.
Technically the 2019-20 season hasn’t ended, and we’re already excited for the start of the new season and to see if Samberg can indeed make the jump from college directly into the NHL.
