Jets Recall Lipon & Morrissey

During Thursday night’s game against the Islanders, the injury bug took another swipe at the Jets roster.
According to Paul Maurice during this morning’s media scrum, Anthony Peluso is going to be out for the next three to four weeks with an upper body injury after crashing hard into the Islanders net during the first period while Nik Ehlers took a puck to the face that actually shattered his visor and caused cuts to his left eye and will be out due to blood in the eye chamber.
With the Jets now down two more bodies, they recalled both forward JC Lipon on an emergency basis (we’ll explain what that means for him in a moment) and defenseman Josh Morrissey.
JC Lipon has 13 goals and 30 points in 45 games played for the Manitoba Moose this season. This will be his second stint with the Jets this season as he played 2 games back in Janurary and saw a little bit of fourth line duty.
Lipon’s call-up is considered an “emergency recall” which helps exempt this recall from counting towards the limit placed on an AHL player to be called up before needing to clear waivers. Once Ehlers is cleared and off the injury list – something we may have more details on within the next 24 hours or so – Lipon will have to be returned to the AHL.
Josh Morrissey on the other hand is a regular recall. Josh – the Jets 13th overall pick from 2013 has 3 goals and 22 points in 56 games with the Moose and was actually called up to the main club for a brief time back in December but didn’t see any ice time.
It’s expected due to injury we may finally see Morrissey’s NHL debut at some point this weekend and he could be up with the big club for the rest of the season.
