Jets Prospect Update – February 24th

The Moose put together a mini win-streak, Kyle Connor maintains his lead in NCAA scoring, and the KHL regular season came to a close. We touch on all this and more in this weeks Jets prospect update.

The Moose had a successful week posting a 3-1 record and scoring well above their season average with 14 goals over that span. While the offense was in rare form it was the goaltending, bolstered by Connor Hellebuyck, that did the heavy lifting as the Moose were significantly out-shot in their wins as per the usual.

Leading the way for Jets prospects on the Moose this week were J.C. Lipon (2G, 1A), Scott Kosmachuk (2G, 1A), and Nic Petan (3A). Also getting on the scoreboard were Chase De Leo (1G, 1A), Josh Morrissey (2A), Brenden Kichton (1G), Austen Brassard (1A), and Julian Melchiori (1A).

Hellebuyck started 3 of the games picking up two wins and one loss and stopping 91 of 97 shots, while Eric Comrie managed to grab a win in his one start stopping 37 of 39.

Brendan Lemieux played in two games and picked up four assists.

Harkins was scoreless in two games.

Michael Spacek and Nelson Nogier both had one assist in three games for the Rebels.

Matteo Gennaro scored one goal in four games played.

Kyle Connor was as hot as ever scoring two goals and adding an assist in his only game of the week. 

Erik Foley had two assists in two games and seems to have found his offensive groove a little bit here late in the season as he’s got six points in six games in February.

Jamie Philips played in both games for Michigan Tech stopping 49 of 53 shots and picking up one win and one loss.

Jack Roslovic, Tucker Poolman, Tanner Lane, and Mason Appleton were held pointless in their games on the week.

C.J. Franklin, Matt Ustaski, and Jack Glover did not play this week.

KHL playoffs began this week meaning of course that their regular season has come to an end.

Pavel Kraskovsky’s season has to be counted as a success as he was able to play a regular role on the men’s team for the first time as well as be a key member of Russia’s world junior team. While the offensive upside is low, Kraskovsky is noted for his defensive ability and still has the look of someone who could maybe be a bottom-6 forward if he ever decides to come to North America. He has no points in two games at this point for Lokomotiv in the playoffs.

While he did have a brief stint on the top line that saw an increase in scoring, overall Ivan Telegin’s season was probably not what the formerly highly touted prospect was hoping for. He will continue to be a part of the Jets prospect pool; but at 24, and with his history in North America, he is likely done as a potential NHLer. He has one assist in two playoff games to this point.

Sami Niku picked up one assist in two games played.

Marcus Karlstrom was held pointless in one game.

Jimmy Lodge scored once and assisted on another in four games played.

Axel Blomqvist had one goal and two assists in four games played.
