Jets Nation Recap: Book ‘Em Dano! Jets Win 5-2

There are Winnipeg fans who have hopes that the Jets would stumble down this last stretch of games and fall into a really nice top three draft pick. There are people within the Canucks who have hopes that Vancouver would make a late season rally and slip into the playoffs.
Neither of those hopes were helped tonight as the Jets went into Vancouver and put the Canucks on blast 5-2.
And even if the thought of the tank stalling out leaves a bad taste in your mouth, imagine how it feels for Canucks fans knowing Marko Dano – who picked up two goals tonight – was a player offered by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Canucks back at the deadline.

(Note: Slightly different format for this recap as I had a nice big, full recap written and then like Ondrej Pavelec when my computer tried to make an easy save it completely botched it and didn’t make a save at all. So you get the cliff notes version…)
GAME THOUGHTS
- Marko Dano looked more comfortable in a Jets uniform and a better fit within the team than he did in his first five games. He meshed well on a line with Matthew Perreault and Alex Burmistrov and the trio had the best possession numbers of anyone on the ice Monday night. Burmi as well had a solid game and was looking more and more confident in taking shots. We can only hope that trend continues.
- Julian Melchiori was yet again an emergency recall in place of an ill Dustin Byfuglien and this time he did in fact play and played pretty well. He did commit two bad turnovers in the third period that led to two Canucks goals in garbage time, but overall he looked composed and paired up well with Tyler Myers.
- Speaking of kids who made an impression, J.C. Lipon was not afraid to throw his body around and Scott Kosmachuk played a safe game and again showed potential as a fourth line replacement for next season. The kids were alright!
- It’s easy to overlook goaltending in a game where you score 5 goals and win by 3, but it would be a shame to do so here. There were two stretches early in the first and second periods where the Canucks actually played well and were out-shooting the Jets and Michael Hutchinson was fantastic in holding the fort. Had the Canucks scored early in that first period, we could have had a far different game than we did.
- Adam Lowry for a second straight game forced a turnover while on the penalty kill. For the second straight game he had a breakaway off that turnover. For a second straight game he tried to go backhand fivehole and was stopped. he may want to try another move, but it’s encouraging to see flashes of the rookie Lowry starting to come back.
