This was a game the Jets really did deserve to win. They were in control of things for the majority of the time, and a different result really would have been heartbreaking. They managed to pull it out though against a team that has been fantastic in puck possession throughout most of the season.

Adam Pardy and Keaton Ellerby once again had a solid night. Yes, they generally face lesser opponents. No, they aren’t going to necessarily be a long-term answer for the Jets in any major capacity. What I want to point out though, is that Mark Stuart generally faced the same pedigree of opponent on a night in and night out basis, yet he was a regular minus player. I really think the Jets have to seriously consider their options when it comes to throwing him right back into this lineup when he gets healthy.

Dustin Byfuglien and Grant Clitsome spent most of the night facing the Sharks big line of Wingels, Thornton and Hertl. They managed to maintain even with them chance for chance, with both defensemen generating goals. These two have generally had a rough go, but they were all right by me on this night. As a Jets fan you have to hope for more of the same moving forward.

We saw Zach Bogosian undertake a bit more of an offensive role in this game. Except for one glaring mistake, Enstrom was generally able to cover for any time he took a rush, and the pairing had another decent night.

The Little Ladd with Wheels line has things going well again. Little and Ladd have been great together for most of the year, but it’s nice to see Wheeler get in on the act. Say what you will about Little’s shooting percentage. It will go down, and his goals are going to stop going at such a spectacular rate at some point. But If they can continue to play like they usually do, someone else will pick up the slack.

The nice thing the Jets have going for them right now is that the second line of Jokinen, Kane and Setoguchi seem to have it together at the moment as well. Again that buzz word comes up, but if both lines can consistently keep things going, this team takes on a much better look.

The third line was victimized a fair bit on the night, but I don’t think they really played poorly. They saw a lot of Marleau, Couture and Kennedy, so a lot of their responsibility was to limit the damage against. I’d say they were pretty successful, as nobody from that line finished at a positive even strength rating either.

Despite giving up two goals, the Jets penalty kill was able to generate a few chances of their own on the night. The bad part? The actually tied the Jets power play in chances for.

The Jets are about to go into the “weaker” part of a tough November schedule. If there was ever a time for them to hit their stride and play well, it’s now. Time to see if this team has any hope for a playoff showing.
