Recently, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff sat down with TSN’s Pierre LeBrun to talk about a myriad of things related to him and the Winnipeg Jets, and late Monday night TSN posted the interview on their website.
In the 10 minute video, Chevy touched on a few hot button topics that will no doubt be of interest to Jets fans including the possibility of the Jets trading away the 13th overall pick…

“We’ve had Stanley and Laine, we had Connor and Roslovic, so we’ve had four first round picks in the last two years, so if there is the right situation there that can help us, whether it’s a piece or pieces, then we’ll certainly look at it”

Shortly after saying that, Chevy did mention that the team would still do it’s due diligence and speculated that this might be a good year for a team to have a pick in the teens due to the variety of picks available.
The conversation then ended up focusing on the defense and the Jets “top four” where Tyler Myers was mentioned as “an X-factor” and a possible part of next season’s top four group, as well as a slight if not very indirect admission that Dustin Byfuglien played far too many minutes most nights. (“You can take Buff’s minutes back from 29 to a ‘measly’ 25 or 26”) … But no discussion of the Jets defense would be complete without a talk about Jacob Trouba and his future with the Jets…

“We look forward to locking Jacob up long term. We said from the onset ‘Scheifele and Trouba, Scheifele and Trouba’, well we really believe Scheifele and Trouba can be the core of us being that team.”

It may be interesting to note that LeBrun’s question specifically asked if Trouba is “a happy Jet” which was left un-answered by Kevin.
Commence more hand-wringing by nervous Jets fans wanting to see number eight as a long term Jet.
The entire video is worth checking out as Kevin also gives his thoughts on the “develop” part of the Jets “draft and develop” strategy, the chance he may add a goalie this summer and his opinions on Connor Hellebuyck, as well as his plans for coach Paul Maurice (Spoiler: The #FireMaurice crowd may not be happy) and you can do so over at TSN.ca’s website.
