Winnipeg Jets Captain Blake Wheeler has been named the NHL’s 2nd star of the week, behind on Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc Andre Fleury.
Wheeler started off the week with a single assist in the Jets 3rd period collapse against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
He then caught fire against Nashville on Friday, recording assists on Mark Scheifele’s 2nd period powerplay marker and Kevin Hayes first goal with his new club on the second of 2 empty netters. Wheeler also scored the go-ahead goal with 6 minutes remaining in the third period against the Preds.
He then followed that up with a 4 goal performance against the Blue Jackets on Sunday night. He started off the night on a nice tip from a Dmitri Kulikov point shot
His second of the night came off of another sweet tip off of a Nathan Beaulieu (bowl-you) point shot
He capped off the hat trick late in the third period off of a perfect backhand feed from Patrik Laine.
He then added his 4th of the night on the empty net
Wheeler’s 8 points (5-3-8) tied him with Sidney Crosby for the league lead this week, and have now pushed Wheeler to the 80-point (17-63-80) threshold for the second consecutive season.
