Jets Sign F Marko Dano to One-Year, $700K Deal

Making another free-agent signing, the Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Marko Dano to a one-year, two-way contract that includes a $700K salary for next season.

Selected in the first round by the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Dano spent just two seasons inside their organization before being shipped off to the Chicago Blackhawks over the offseason in 2015. But after just 13 games, the 25-year old and a 2016 first-round pick were traded to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for forward Andrew Ladd along with two prospects.

Over his three seasons with the Jets, the left-hander played in 82 games, averaging 10:31 minutes of ice time and producing 10 goals, 22 points, 0.12 goals per game, 0.27 points per game, 156 hits, 105 shots on net, 29 blocks, 29 takeaways, and a 37.5% faceoff percentage.

Following the 2017-18 campaign, Dano was surprisingly placed on waivers and was ultimately claimed by the Colorado Avalanche, although, he played in just eight games and failed to record a single point. Returning to Columbus in 2019-20, the 5-foot-11 forward spent the majority of this past season in the AHL, appearing in just three games in the NHL.

Through his 46 games with the Cleveland Monsters, the native of Austria created four goals, 19 points, 0.09 goals per game, 0.41 points per game, 66 shots on net, along with his game-winning goal against the Charlotte Checkers on Nov. 26.

Until the NHL returns in 2021, Dano is expected to continue playing with Trencin in the Slovakian Extraliga, where he owns two goals and three points through one game.
