What was rumor yesterday – and really has been since the end of last season – is now official today.
Both GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and head coach Paul Maurice have been given “multi-year” extensions by the Winnipeg Jets. It didn’t take long for Jets fans to chime in on social media and reactions were mostly of befuddlement.
Some fans took to humor and sarcasm…
In what was a common theme for many, fans wondered how a reward of contract extensions came before results did…
Rewarded for complete lack of results
Some Jets fans felt that Kevin Cheveldayoff may have earned his extension – perhaps based on a solid track record of drafting (which granted, he shouldn’t get total credit for) as well as making some much needed moves this summer – but were not convince that Maurice should have been given the same treatment…
Chevy.....yes. Maurice....should have waited to see how team was doing December 1.
Chevy's good but Pomo I don't get. I understand he's been developing more than trying to win but show me you can win before a multi-year ext
Other fans felt it was a move needed to be made as Maurice entered the season in the final year of his current contract in order to provide some stability, but also warned that there still could be consequences to a poor start…
Like Chevy extension. Have to think there is a Plan B for Maurice in the org, if they get off to a bad start this year fans will turn quick.
Others still flat out hated the idea that the coach and GM may have been extended…
Makes me wanna puke
