It took 2 minutes to stop swearing when I heard.

As you might expect – and for good reason – Jets fans were less than thrilled with the deal.
I’ve been backing #NHLJets Chevy on almost all moves for awhile now, even the ones that didn’t work out, but I’m not enthused about the Trouba deal. Watched Pionk a dozen times last year and liked his play with the puck but got caved in DZ. Small sample but eyes and numbers...
With that Trouba return I honestly won’t be surprised if someone else big gets traded now. They just blew their window to contend by giving away a top pairing defenseman for literally a bag of pucks. #NHLJets
Other members of the hockey media both local and national weighed in.
In the end, the #NHLJets lose this trade in a bad way. And that was always going to be the case.
This is probably as good a deal as the #NHLJets could have made for Trouba- at least under the circumstances. I don’t think it’s realistic that “perceived” market value could have ever been achieved
TRANSACTION: The Winnipeg Jets have acquired D - Neal Pionk and a first-round selection, 20th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for D - Jacob Trouba.
Now let's see what this means for pending UFA Tyler Myers and the Jets. Both sides have kept the door open but obviously a Trouba trade had to happen first.
I feel bad for Neal Pionk, who is 23, who is not Jacob Trouba, and who has the kind of last name that becomes an unfortunate verb when trades don't work out.
Winnipeg trades Jacob Trouba to the New York Rangers for Neal Pionk and the 20th overall pick in the 2019 draft -- Winnipeg's own pick from the Kevin Hayes trade. To me, this is a decidedly underwhelming return for Winnipeg. (1/x)
At the very least, NY Ranger fans were more than thrilled with the deal and start a week where they are about to land a number two pick with a top pairing defenseman…

So basically the Rangers traded Hayes and Pionk for Trouba and Lemieux. Wow. Incredible job by Gorton and JD. #NYR
As a #NYR fan I'm thrilled, but I honestly think the return for Trouba was underwhelming from a Jets perspective.
As a Rangers fan, I thought a trade for Pionk would include something like a bag of hockey pucks, not a main part of a Jacob Trouba deal. Thanks for your generosity
Some Jets fans while not thrilled with the deal continue to keep the faith and hope for the best. Other Jets fans were all too happy to see the departure of a player who never seemed fully committed to the team.
How is Pionk not trending? 40 points in 101 career games and a -16 on a fading NYR team. And we get some skin back in the draft game. I wont' lose sleep over it. #NHLJets
Yep... Trouba was a problem for the jets in more ways than one. It's really too bad that a player of his caliber is going to be remembered as a guy that held the Jets for ransom multiple times.
I don’t want to play devils advocate because none of y’all want to hear it, but the #NHLJets saw a lot of Neal Pionk when tracking Dylan Samberg’s D+1 at UMD. So maybe they’re pushing all-in on their scouting and personnel staffs reports on him.
Bye bye Trouba 👋 #seeyanever #NHLJets
If Alan’s jersey collection is any indication, he may be a harbinger of worse things to come…
Going through my jerseys and I think the news is gonna get even worse for #NHLJets fans.
