As per Mike Sawatsky of the Winnipeg Free Press, Tucker Poolman will delay his decision on his future due to his current shoulder injury. For Poolman, there’s no rush to make any decision and with a serious upper body injury, it’s probably safe not to rush things.
While Poolman may have only finished his junior season of college, he played one year of USHL hockey after being drafted, thus meaning he can be a free agent on August 15th. But for the time being, there’s no need to panic.
The Jets have plenty to offer Poolman. The Jets can offer a desirable location to Poolman, who not only attended the University of North Dakota, but was born and raised in East Grand Forks. The Jets can also offer oppurtunity. Winnipeg’s defenceman depth is quite weak and Poolman could have a legitimate shot at cracking the team’s roster out of training camp.
There’s plenty of time until August 15th and furthmore, no rush for Poolman to sign immediately. It may even benefit the Jets to have Poolman sign in the summer as his two-year entry level contract would start in 2017-2018 as opposed to starting in the final stages of this year and next year.
