Despite generating 14 shots on goal in the opening frame, forward @Mark Scheifele&#8217;s 25th goal of the season was the only puck that somehow found its way into the net during the first period. Following a lacklustre second period, Winnipeg carried its one-goal lead into the final 20 minutes of play, unfortunately, it didn&#8217;t last for very long.
At the 6:17 mark of the final frame, a lack of boxing out from defencemen @Brenden Dillon and @Nate Schmidt ultimately allowed forward @Nick Ritchie to pounce on the loose puck behind goaltender @Connor Hellebuyck. As a result, the former Toronto Maple Leaf tied this contest by scoring his ninth goal of 2021-22 &#8211; his seventh marker since being traded to Arizona.
Once regulation couldn&#8217;t decide a winner, this game headed to 3-on-3 overtime, where, thanks to the efforts of @Blake Wheeler and @Josh Morrissey, Scheifele broke out on a breakaway to put this one to bed.

Even though he didn&#8217;t hold his opponent scoreless this time around, the 6&#8217;4&#8243; netminder still dominated in goal throughout the night.
Overall, Vejmelka stopped 38 of his 40 shots against, resulting in a 1.85 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. Expanding on his performance, he excelled at frustrating his opposition at 5-on-5, where the Coyotes&#8217; goaltender made 31 saves &#8211; 11 of which came from high-danger locations &#8211; and saved 2.21 goals above expected.
In particular, one of his most notable stops occurred during the first period against Ehlers. With Stastny circling the net, the veteran forward quickly passed the puck over to his teammate, who was located at the doorstep but was ultimately denied by Vejmelka&#8217;s right pad.

Most notably, the left-handed blueliner helped preserve Winnipeg&#8217;s one-goal edge in the first period as one of his three blocked shots on the night prevented a game-tying score. While tying up his man in front of Hellebuyck, the youngster&#8217;s right skate happened to be perfectly positioned to deflect a shot wide of his team&#8217;s net.
