Mark Scheifele will miss the next “six to eight weeks” with an “upper body injury” according to the Winnipeg Jets and Paul Maurice who shared the news during an Thursday afternoon press briefing.
The injury happened during Wednesday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers when Scheifele engaged in a puck battle with Oilers defenseman Mark Davidson. Scheifele seemed to lose his footing and fell awkwardly into the boards apparently shoulder first.
Scheifele remained on the ice for a couple of minutes, strongly favoring his right arm/shoulder before being helped off the ice.
For now Maurice has started that moving forward the club has no intentions of calling up any player from the AHL Manitoba Moose for the time being. It was suggested that Mathieu Perreault will slot into the top line and fill Scheifele’s role there, while Shawn Matthias and Marko Dano will be given chances to fill Perrault’s spot on the fourth line.
In 38 games this season, Scheifele had 15 goals and 23 assists. His 23 points was good for second on the team behind Blake Wheeler.
