The National Hockey League has announced further postponements amid the current surge of COVID-19, particularly involving five of the seven Canadian franchises.
On Tuesday, the NHL released a statement outlining that due to “current attendance restrictions” across several Canadian cities that additional postponements are required. In total, the league has called off nine separate games, three involving the Winnipeg Jets.
Originally, the Jets were scheduled to resume their season on Friday at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Calgary Flames, unfortunately, that won’t be the case. Additionally, their games on Jan. 8 (Seattle Kraken) and Jan. 10 (Minnesota Wild) have also been postponed.
Following the latest announcement from Manitoba’s Public Health Unit, which lowered the capacity of all gatherings to either 250 people or 50 per cent, the NHL decided it was best to push back all of Winnipeg’s home games to at least Jan. 15.
In the meantime, they’ll still be permitted to travel on the road, allowing them to depart for their three-game road trip beginning on Jan. 2.
The Jets are currently scheduled to resume play on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights, with puck drop slated for 3:00 pm CT.
