Home Sweet Home
The Jets will get to play in front of the Winnipeg faithful for the first time in the 2018-19 regular season and they do so with the challenge of looking to play a cleaner, calmer game than they had on Saturday when bad penalties and poor special teams play sunk them against the Dallas Stars. They also are hoping for a much better home opener than they had a year ago against the Toronto Maple Leafs

Jets Notebook

  • The Jets open up their home schedule tonight and they are hoping for more of the same from last season when they posted a NHL best 32-7-2 record. One of the few losses they had at home was to the Kings though on February 20 when Connor Hellebuyck had an off night with a .875 save percentage.
  • The Kings have helped open things at home for the Jets before. In the 2013-14 season, the Jets defeated the Kings 5-3 thanks to a couple of quick third period goals. Overall though the Jets have struggled a bit in home openers going 3-4-0 in the seven previous, but they have won two of their last three.
  • All time the Jets are 14-14-1. Blake Wheeler of course leads team scoring against the Kings with seven goals and 18 points in 26 games played. Connor hellebuyck has a history of struggling against the Kings with a 1-2-0 record and a .887 save percentage.
  • No significant injuries for the Jets at the moment. Adam Lowry and Jacob Trouba did miss Monday’s practice, but Paul Maurice stated both players should be good to go tonight.

Kings Notebook

  • The Kings have yet to tally on the power play yet in the first two games they played this season. They seem to be focued early on in having Ilya Kocalchuk be the trigger man which isn’t a bad idea at all, but as Jets fans can attest to back when the Jets tried to run their power play through Buff, it becomes a very easy power play to read and defend. It seems funny to say, but without having someone like a Dustin Brown around the net to cause some disturbance, or until the Kings figure out a second shooter to go on their top power play unit, it may remain one dimensional.
  • Alex Iafallo has to feel a bit like a lottery winner as he has been on a line with Kovalchuk and Kopitar. The second year forward scored two goals against Detroit on Sunday – one was an empty net goal, but those count all the same – and looks pretty strong playing with two top forwards.
  • The Kings allowed the fewest goals against last season – partly thanks to Jonathan Quick but they have a strong group of defensemen who will make life tough for the Jets.
  • Los Angeles has had some tough injuries to deal with early on. Dustin Brown is out with a broken finger and Quick as has been well noted is out with an LBI.
