The Winnipeg Jets close out the last week of the regular season with a four-game road trip starting tonight in Chicago and tomorrow night in Minnesota. Winnipeg is just six points away (either earned by them or lost by Nashville/St. Louis) from clinching top spot in the Central division and maybe even more importantly, get things trending in a positive direction leading into the playoffs.

#56 Erik Gustafsson  – Defense

It’s been a great breakout season for the Hawks 27 year old defenseman who is enjoying his first full season in the NHL after a couple of seasons split between Chicago and Rockford of the AHL. It’s come almost out of necessity as aging players like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook have started to become shells of them former selves and it’s Gustafsson who has led Hawks d-men in both goals and points.

The Hawks needed a full two points from this game to have any chance to stay alive in the playoff race, but a Drew Doughty power play goal with seconds left in overtime sunk the Hawks.

Jets Player To Watch

#18 Bryan Little – LW

When the Jets went out and traded for Kevin Hayes, many understood that it was to help the Jets be a deeper offensive team as Hayes is someone that can play center on a second line. That role was something that the Jets had hoped would be filled by Bryan Little back in 2017 when they signed him to a six year, $6.25 million deal – the first year of which kicked in this season. That it’s the second season in a row that the Jets have gone out to pick up depth at center should be a bit concerning, but Little’s nine game point-less streak coming down the stretch is even more concerning.
If the Jets are going to have any chance to have a deep run at the playoffs, the need Little to start chipping in some offense.

Connor Hellebuyck was great, the rest of the Winnipeg Jets were duds as the home side closed out with a fourth loss in row at Bell MTS Place and the Canadiens kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 win.
