JNGD.S8.G69 Recap: Jets Critical Mistakes Result In Last Second 5-4 Loss

So you thought the loss the Jets had against Minnesota at home where the Wild scored two quick goals at the end of the game was a kick in the teeth and that it couldn’t possibly get any worse than that, right?
Tonight’s game had other ideas. The Jets make far too many mistakes against a Sharks team that will always capitalize on them and one last critical error led to a goal against with just three seconds left on the clock.
Ouch.
Jets lose 5-4 at home to the San Jose Sharks.

FIRST PERIOD

Most of the offense in the first period happens in the span of one minute and five seconds in the middle of the period. The Sharks open up scoring on a Marc-Edouard Vlasic goal after the Jets defense loses sight of the puck. The Jets quickly tie things up 32 seconds later as Andrew Copp tips a Ben Chiarot long distance shot, and then shortly after that Bryan Little gives the Jets a lead.
Before the period ends, Gustav Nyquist finishes off a Tomas Hertl rush to the net that the Jets forwards and defense all lost containment on.
The Sharks lead the shot 12-10 and had four more shot attempts (19-15) than the Jets had, but high danger scoring chances are listed even at 3-3.

SECOND PERIOD

It feels like the Sharks dominate most of the period and for stretches of time they do, but it’s not as bad as one would have thought looking at the numbers once the second was over. Scoring chances and high dangers chances were even (10-10 scoring and 3-3 high danger) as the teams trade goals with Kyle Connor scoring on a nifty backhand less than a minute into the period while on the power play, and then Nyquist scoring yet again to even things up, yet again.

THIRD PERIOD

San Jose grabs the lead two minutes into the period as again the Jets have issues defending around their net and Joe Thornton – who has a bit of talent when it comes to passing pucks – finds Marcus Sorensen for the fourth goal.
The Jets puck possession numbers in the third period are actually impressive and it sure seems like they are carrying the play for the most part, but they don’t really amount to much as tight checking from the Sharks in their own end and a lot of missed shots only adds up to three whole shots before a fourth shot gets tipped past Aaron Dell by Mathieu Perreault to tie things up with just a few minutes left to play in the game
Disaster strikes though in the last seconds as the Jets get caught with a turnover and a 2 on 1 back the other way that is finished off by Joe Pavelski for the Sharks GWG.
