JNGD.S8.G25 Flight Plan: Jets Start Three Game Road Swing In Jersey
alt

While the mood from fans about the Jets hasn’t been overly positive as the team struggles to lock down leads, the Jets have at least kind of owned the Devils the last few years, having won their last five games against New Jersey including a win almost three weeks ago in Winnipeg. So as the Jets start a three game road trip tonight in Jersey, there is room for optimism.

Jets Notebook

  • If the Jets can score four in a game, they should be a lock to win. They are 10-0-1 this season when scoring four or more goals in a game (that one OT loss was the blown third period lead against the Edmonton Oilers)
  • This is the Jets fourth back to back set of games coming up this weekend as they follow up tonight’s game in Jersey with a contest against the New York Rangers tomorrow night. The Jets are 2-1-0 in the first game this season while they are 1-2-0 in the second game.
  • Winnipeg has had a great run against New Jersey as they’ve won their last five games against the Devils including a 5-2 win against them on November 11. The Jets are 11-1-2 in their last 14 games, having outscored the Devils 42-23 in those 14 contests. They also sport a winning record (8-5-4) against the Devils in their home rink of the Prudential Center.
  • Laurent Brossoit gets the start tonight and it’ll be the first time he’s ever faced New Jersey. Expect Hellebuyck in against the Rangers tomorrow.
  • The Jets currently have three players on IR, Dmitry Kulikov remains out with an upper body injury, Joe Morrow is out but with the team on the trip. Dustin Byfuglien is now out for at least a week or more with a concussion. Andrew Copp gets back into the lineup after missing three games with an upper body injury
  • Mason Appleton will make his NHL debut tonight. He had eight goals and 10 assists in 18 games with the Manitoba Moose this season

Last Jets Game

Devils Notebook

  • New Jersey played last night in Washington and suffered a 6-3 loss to the Capitals. This will be their fourth back-to-back set of the season and so far this season the Devils have gone 0-2-1 in the second game of those sets.
  • Jersey has only won one of their last seven games played and lost three other games in overtime.
  • Corey Schneider started in the Devils first game against Winnipeg back on allowing five goals on 28 shots faced. For his career, Schneider has struggled against the Jets/Thrashers franchise going 3-7-1 with a .902 save percentage. Still, he likely draws in to get tonight’s starting assignment as regular Devils starter Keith Kinkade played the full sixty minutes against Washington the night before.
  • The Devils do at least one thing really well and that’s lock leads down. They are 8-0-2 this season when leading after two periods and since the start of the 2015-16 season are an eye popping 82-0-13 when up by a goal or more with 20 minutes left to play. Of course it’s not as good when they trail or are tied going into the third period as they are 1-11-2
  • Taylor Hall notched his 500th point last night on an assist in last night’s game against Washington. He needs two more goals to hit the 200 mark. In his career against Atlanta/Winnipeg, he has six goals and 12 assists in 14 games. One last Hall note.. The reigning NHL MVP has tallied a point in 16 of the Devils 24 games this season and of course leads the team in assists and points.
  • No major injuries for the Devils going into the game. Defenseman Steven Santini has been on IR since October 21 with a broken jaw. Rookie forward Joey Anderson was put on IR on November 22 with a lower body injury
