That’s more like it!
The Jets overcame a rather odorous Hawks goal against 11 second into the game and scored five in the first to pace themselves to a bit 6-2 win over Chicago.
TALKING POINTS
- NHL officiating both on-ice and in the review room is broken. I don’t know how that opening Hawks goal doesn’t get called back for an obvious off-side, but whatever. I suspect we’ll probably see out fair share of garbage calls in the playoffs as well.
- The Jets then proceeded to score the next five goals – thanks largely to very suspect goaltending from Anton Forsberg and then J.F. Berube and thanks to some pretty passing plays that left the Blackhawks defense spinning on their heels.
- It’s so nice to have secondary scoring isn’t it? Armia… Little.. Roslovic… Perreault had a couple of brilliant chances as well but just couldn’t beat Berube. All four Jets lines were pretty darn good tonight.
- Speaking of Berube, after that first period he settled down and played really well for the Hawks. He’s the reason the game didn’t have eight or nine goals from the Jets.
- To the credit of the Jets, they didn’t exactly sit on a lead in the second or third periods as they out-shot the Hawks 10-9 in the second period and 15-7 in the third.
- Patrik Laine’s point streak continues. That is all.
- Considering the last few games he’s played, tonight must have felt like a bit of a night off for Connor Hellebuyck. 25 saves and the defense was pretty good in front of him
- This win didn’t happen just because Jacob Trouba returned to the lineup, but his return sure didn’t hurt at all. He had only the second lowest amount of ice time among Jets defensemen with 14:42 played with some special teams play mixed in there a little bit. Still managed a couple of points on the night.

HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Kyle Connor – Snapped the goal scoring slump earlier this week and added two more tonight to become a 25 goal scorer. Not bad for a kid that started in the AHL this season.
For Chicago: Brandon Saad – Was flying on the ice all night creating some decent chances for the Hawks. Did have a goal no matter how much we want to dispute it.
NEXT FLIGHT
The Jets get a couple of days rest between games and may even get a couple of more players back for their game against the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Puck drop in Winnipeg for Hometown Hockey will be at 6:30 PM CST.
