Again, it wasn’t the prettiest of wins for the Jets, but at the end of the season they don’t tack on style points. The Jets did what needed to be done, got offense from Laine and great goaltending from Hellebuyck and earned a 3-2 win in Carolina.

TALKING POINTS

  • That felt like the fastest game ever in terms of time it took to play. From opening puck drop to final whistle it took slightly over just two hours.
  • I am starting to wonder if communication – a lack of it – is an issue with the Jets penalty kill. A number of times tonight I saw players getting crossed up when covering the points. The PK was pretty good a couple of months ago, I’m not sure what has changed exactly to make it seem so disorganized.
  • Oh right, Trouba and Enstrom are still out. Never mind. the Jets defense has desperately missed both of them. Thankfully Enstrom’s return is imminent so it should get a bit better.
  • Patrik Laine is a treasure. Seventh time in his last eight games he’s had a two point night and it’s the third time in the last four games he’s had a two goal night.
  • Joe Morrow and Ben Chiarot had a better night than Tyler Myers and Dmitry Kulikov… Did not see that coming.
  • Connor Hellebuyck had a very strong night tonight stopping 33 of 34 shots tonight. There have been concerns he may have been burning out a bit, but it sure didn’t show tonight.

SCORING SUMMARY

GIF HIGHLIGHTS

HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Patrik Laine – Who else? Three point night for the kid who is carrying the offense and feels almost automatic any time you get him on the power play.
For Carolina: Jaccob Slavin – Heard his name called a lot tonight and it was usually while playing some strong defense. He also chipped in an assist as well as got five shots on goal.

NEXT FLIGHT

Tuesday night the Jets invade New York as they will take on the Rangers. Puck drop in MSG will come at 6 PM CST.
