JNGD.42 Recap: Jets Coast To Win Over Sabres

If we’re being completely honest here, this wasn’t exactly the greatest of wins by the Winnipeg Jets tonight.
Sure, a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres is nice, but had it been against any other NHL club other than Buffalo, it might not have gone this way. The Jets really did just above the bare minimum to get the W.
And while I get that this sounds super negative, but really isn’t. Every NHL club will have off nights, but the good clubs in those off nights will still find a way to pull off victories or at the very least stay competitive in them. The Jets were not exactly disciplined tonight, but at least their penalty kill picked them up (and again in the interest of being honest, the Sabres power play wasn’t very good). They played down to the level of their opponent while 5 on 5, but the Jets were quite good on the power play (and again, the Sabres penalty kill wasn’t very good)
Hellebuyck was ok, made 26 saves, but also let in a couple that he probably would have liked back.
The Jets had a very “meh” effort tonight and still won. Maybe that is reason enough to feel more than just “meh” about the win, but then NHL fan bases can also have off nights as well.
Oh and hey, Byfuglien scored. Finally.

Good play by the Sabres to get a scoring chance. Even better save by Hellebuyck though. #NHLJets
HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Blake Wheeler – The Captain with yet another goal along with two assists. Sure, the score-sheet says ONE assist, but he should get a second for recommending to Jacob Trouba to go with a toe curve on his stick which Jacob did and subsequently scored his second goal of the season. That’s real leadership!
For Buffalo: Evan Rodrigues – A couple of primary assists on the night and had three shots. Not a bad night for him, but it really speaks volumes about a team when that kind of night is the most noteworthy.
NEXT FLIGHT
The Jets will entertain the San Jose Sharks for their second meeting of the season in a Sunday afternoon matinee. Puck drop at Bell MTS Place is at 2 PM CST
