JNGD.33 Recap: None Shall Pass

One doesn’t ever want to use the term “deserved a better fate” too loosely, but on Saturday night the Winnipeg Jets clearly deserved a better fate.
But this is hockey where “deserved” doesn’t always translate into “earned” or “got” and so even though the Jets were the better of the two teams on the ice, it was goalie Carter Hutton and the St. Louis Blues who skated away with a 2-0 win.
Blues backup goalie Carter Hutton ended up being the story of the game as he made 48 saves in a fantastic night for him, but the Jets Steve Mason was also fantastic as he made arguably some more difficult saves.
The other story of the night was the Jets penalty kill which wasn’t all that great against a Blues power play that had been struggling quite a bit over the last few games. Both Blues goals came via the power play.
SCORING SUMMARY

CONDENSED GAME
HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.
GOALIES OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Steve Mason – 28 saves on 30 shots for a .933 save percentage. On most nights that should put you in a great position to win the game unless the other goalie is…
For St. Louis: Carter Hutton – 48 saves on 48 shots for a 1.000 save percentage.
NEXT FLIGHT
These two teams do it all over again Sunday afternoon-ish-evening-ish at a weird start time as they complete the second half of their home and home series.
