The Jets have had an ok preseason despite all the noise that’s been going on around them. They really should be 3-1-0 right now but we all know how that game against St. Louis went. And yes preseason records don’t matter, but it’s better to go through these things with victories as you evaluate players, especially given how fragile Jets fans are right now (or is that constantly?) after a disappointing season, a bad summer, two RFA’s still un-signed, a car wreck involving two of the team’s young prospects, Mathieu Perreault tragically cutting his hair, and a franchise defenseman contemplating life, the universe, and everything.
2-1-1 is respectable and it hasn’t been without some bright spots. As for the game tonight in Calgary though, the Jets could be in for a long night as they’ve brought an AHL knife to an NHL gun fight.
Here are your Manitoba Moose Winnipeg Jets.
No lines as of yet – as always follow us on Twitter for the latest info on the game as well as all your Jets news and snark.
As for the Flames, as you’ll note, they likely would be looking to avenge last Sunday’s loss in a big way tonight with this kind of lineup…
*gulp*
If your first inclination is to look away and find something else to watch, I wouldn’t blame you. This preseason game might be a chore for Jets fans to get through. If you do care to watch it though, here are a few things to keep an eye on.

1 – Time to step up Kristian

I could be talking about Kristian Reichel (son of Robert) but the Kristian we really need to see positive work from tonight is Vesalainen who has to say the very least been underwhelming in this camp. It would appear the game is moving a bit too fast for him and at this rate it’s hard not to see him with anything but a one-way ticket to Moose-ville at the end of this camp which is a shame when you consider that there were spots open with the absences of Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine. This whole situation isn’t unlike last season when Kristian V did struggle early in the season but as he spent more time with the Moose seemed to get more comfortable and was producing more until he decided to head back to Europe.

2 – The *other* kid that’s been turning heads

While Ville Heinola has been grabbing all the headlines and attention at camp, Andrei Chibisov has quietly put together a rather nice camp for himself as well and where Kristian Vesalainen has kind of failed in grabbing one of those aforementioned open roster spots, Chibisov has made a solid claim to be in with the Jets on Opening night. He’s used his 6’4″ frame well in a physical sense, has made good plays with the puck and hasn’t really been caught out of position too many times he gets yet another game tonight – it feels like he’s played all of them so far – and will likely see middle-six ice time in a bit more of a checking role.

3 – Another test for the defense

Tucker Poolman, Anthony Bitetto, Dmitry Kulikov and Nathan Beaulieu all get a chance to show their stuff to the coaching staff and to a fan based that is still unconvinced that the Jets defense won’t be an absolute train wreck without Dustin Byfuglien. There has been a lot printed about Bitetto especially both in the Jets website and podcast about what a good stand up guy he is and how much guys love him in the dressing room which is Matt Hendricks / Chris Thorburn / Mark Stuart type of talk. For what it’s worth, I personally feel like Bitetto has been ok so far. Nothing to sing praises over (outside of his amazing New York accent) but he also hasn’t been awful either. Poolman has been slightly better than that and a couple of more strong games from him should lock him in to the opening night roster.
