JN Flight Plan: Winnipeg Jets Take On Jacob Trouba’s New York Rangers

Oct 3, 2019, 15:00 EDTUpdated: Oct 3, 2019, 14:33 EDT
Finally!
The Jets start this season looking at two games on back to back nights against two teams who missed the playoffs last season but have both improved over the summer. Yes, there is issues with the defense and they are on the road, but there is a strong chance the Jets start the season 2 and 0.
Or @Jacob Trouba and @Brendan Lemieux could both end up scoring tonight and we really kick this season off in true Winnipeg style.
Lets hope for the better tonight.

Last Rangers Game
The Rangers paid a visit to the home of the Islanders farm club in Bridgeport, CT and played a pretty entertaining back and forth game against a more experienced Islanders club but ended up falling a bit short as the Isles overwhelmed them in the third period.
Fun Rangers Facts…
- The Rangers are the only NHL team with eight players on their Opening Night roster age 23 or younger, and the only team with five players age 21 or younger.
- Beginning their 93rd season, the Rangers are 38-38-14-2 in home openers.
- @Artemi Panarin, Jacob Trouba, @Kaapo Kakko and @Adam Fox all are making their Rangers debuts. Panarin has six points (2-4–6) in his four career season openers.
What They’re Saying…
“Ah, the moves; the ones that took the Rangers from youthful exuberance to a team with an entirely new complexion. That started with signing the jewel of the free-agent class, winger Artemi Panarin, to a blockbuster seven-year, $81.5 million deal. But unlike so many free-agent splashes the Rangers have made in the past — many of which fell flat — Panarin is 27 years old with a ton of tread still on his tires, known intimately by first-year team president John Davidson during their time with the Blue Jackets.”
“Time to finally get look at Kaapo Kakko and rebuilt Rangers” – New York Post
“The clock that started last season — or really, when Jeff Gorton submitted that letter to the fans 602 days ago — is about to run out. Once the linesman drops the puck tonight soon after 7 pm, the hourglass will flip over and start anew, with new failures and disappointments to come. But in-between the organization and fans find themselves in the eye of the storm. They are reborn and optimistic, yet to be hurt by the world around them.”
“On the Misery of Sports and Why Rangers Fans Must Appreciate Tonight’s Opening Game” – Blueshirt Banter
Last Jets Game
It wasn’t pretty and it featured another blown lead in the third period, but the Jets managed to close out their preseason with an overtime win on one of the stranger final plays we may see this entire season.
Fun Jets Facts…
- Tonight is the first game of a four-game road trip for the Jets to start the season.
- As a franchise, Winnipeg is 10-8-1 all-time in season openers. The Jets are 5-2-0 when starting the season on the road, including winning their past four season openers that are on the road.
- Jets went 18-12-2 against Eastern Conference teams last season, including 11-5-0 against the Metropolitan Division and 7-7-2 against the Atlantic Division
- @Ville Heinola makes his NHL debut tonight. @Mark Letestu, @Neal Pionk, @Athony Bitetto and @Gabriel Bourque all make their Jets debuts.
What We’re Saying…
“The rest of the team all played in multiple preseason games so there shouldn’t be any worry of a slow start. The interesting thing to watch will be if Laine and Connor can keep up and start the season strong despite missing all of training camp.”
