JN Flight Plan: Winnipeg Jets At Dallas Stars

Fresh off what was easily their most convincing win of the season on Tuesday, the Winnipeg Jets followed the Stars back to their home in Dallas to potentially administer more beatings and hopefully gain a little bit of separation in the Central division standings. Expect a much different game than we saw earlier this week though as the Stars always play tough at home and will be anxious to prove their latest two game slide through Minnesota and Winnipeg were not an indication of bigger issues for the club.

Last Stars & Jets Game

Was it the best game the Jets played all year? Was it the worst game the Stars have had all year? It was likely a combination of the two as the Jets played a fantastic overall team game and didn’t let up very much against a Stars club that seemed to be going through the motions if not much more in a 5-1 Winnipeg victory.

Fun Stars Facts…

  • Dallas comes into Thursday’s contest having earned points in four of the last five games (3-1-1) and in five of the last seven (4-2-1) against the Jets.
  • Dallas boasts a 7-1-0 record over their last eight games at American Airlines Center, including sweeping a four-game homestand from Nov. 19 – 25. marks the first time in Dallas Stars history that the team has swept a homestand of at least four games and the third time in Franchise history.
  • The Stars own an 9-4-1 record in 14 games at American Airlines Center so far in 2019-20, while the club’s nine wins at home are tied for first in the Western Conference and fifth in the NHL.

What They’re Saying…

Forward Alexander Radulov is probably the Stars’ biggest issue over the four-game losing streak. Radulov has without a doubt cost the Stars two of their last four games. When the Stars lost to the Blackhawks, Radulov recorded a late penalty that killed momentum while hunting for a game-tying goal. His second offense came against the Minnesota Wild. Dallas was winning the game when Radulov committed a holding penalty. The Wild’s power-play goal sent the game into overtime where they won in a shootout.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets are 10-5-0 on the road this season, which is tied for the second most wins in the NHL. Winnipeg has won seven of their past nine road games, including matching a franchise record with five consecutive road wins from Nov. 1 to Nov. 19.
  • Winnipeg has scored five times in a game on four occasions this season, including twice in their past four games.
  • Connor Hellebuyck has allowed one goal or less in three consecutive starts and five of his past six appearances. In his last four games, Hellebuyck is 4-0-0 and has stopped 88 of 90 shots for a .978 save percentage.
  • The Jets have scored at least four goals in 10 of their past 15 games against Dallas, outscoring the Stars 60-39 in the 15 games.

What We’re Saying…

On the flipside, the Jets entering the zone will be a major key in this game. We saw multiple goals on Tuesday come from excellent zone entries with speed. The Jets had multiple breakaways with their speed through the centre ice as both Ehlers and Scheifele had chances all alone. The Jets speed is a major asset and it will be something to watch for tonight.
