JN Flight Plan: Jets Hope To Add To Preds Misery At Home

The Nashville Predators have been surprisingly average to start this NHL season and have been downright sub-par over the last five games which included a brutal 7-2 loss to Chicago at home this past Saturday. The Jets meanwhile have been surprisingly decent with two wins in Florida this past weekend and have won six of their last eight games played leading to a rather impressive if not somewhat deceptive 6-1-1 record in November.

Last Predators Game

Nashville threw 41 shots at the Chicago Blackhawks but were stymied by @Robin Lehner pretty much the entire game. Meanwhile defensive breakdowns and the inability to get needed saves from @Pekka Rinne and Jusse Saros doomed the Preds to a brutal 7-2 loss at home.

Fun Predators Fact…

  • In giving up seven to the Chocago Blackhawks on Saturday, the Preds allowed seven goals for the third time this season and second time in their last four games.
  • Nashville has scored at least four goals in 10 of their 19 contests; they’ve scored at least five goals in seven games.
  • Predators Captain Roman Josi scored twice on Saturday to give him 100 career goals. He joined Shea Weber (166) as the second defenseman and 12th skater in team history to hit the milestone.
  • Nashville has scored a power-play goal in 12 of its 19 games, going 14-for-69.
  • Nashville has scored 32 third-period goals, the highest total in the NHL.
  • MIILESTONE WATCH: @Viktor Arvidsson is one point from 200 career NHL points.

What They’re Saying…

A lot of people might see these stats and say the Preds have been “lucky.” I personally don’t know if I’d go that far, considering some longer-range goals that the metrics might call “weak” could be a result of a well-executed screen or a wacky deflection. But it does tell me the Preds have benefited from some plays unfolding in an uncharacteristically perfect way. And that style of play isn’t sustainable for a whole season.
Defenseman @Dan Hamhuis hasn’t scored a goal in almost two years. The 36-year-old, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, isn’t sure when he’s going to retire and he said he isn’t obsessed with that stat.

Last Jets Game

A back and forth game saw the Jets score the go-ahead goal multiple times only to have Florida match it a few minutes later. Winnipeg finally took hold of the game late in the third period as they scored to go up 3-2 and then scored again a few minutes later to go up 4-2. Florida managed to score one goal with the empty net, but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Jets narrowly escaped with the win.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • Nikolaj Ehlers leads the Jets in scoring on the road with 13 points (7G, 6A) in nine games, while Patrik Laine has 10 points (1G, 9A) in eight games.
  • Saturday’s win over Tampa was Winnipeg’s NHL-leading ninth victory by one-goal this season. Seven of Winnipeg’s past eight wins have been by one goal. 11 of the Jets 21 games this season have been decided by one goal, they are 9-1-1 in those games.
  • The Jets are 3-1-0 against divisional opponents this season. Eight of Winnipeg’s next nine games are against Western Conference teams, including four against the Central Division.
  • Winnipeg has won four of their last five games against Nashville.
  • The Jets have scored five goals in each of their past three games against the Predators.
  • MILESTONE WATCH: Tonight’s game will see @Mathieu Perreault playing in his 600th career NHL game while Nik Ehlers is playing in his 200th career NHL game. Patrik Laine is one goal away from 100 career NHL goals.

What We’re Saying…

Despite the Jets averaging the 24th-worst goals/game (2.71) rate in the league, their team shouldn’t have any problems scoring a handful of goals against the Predators tonight in Bridgestone arena. With Winnipeg creating three goals or more in four of their last five games, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them score at least three goals in Nashville.
