After a memorable All-Star weekend, it’s back to the reality and grind of the regular season and for the Winnipeg Jets many questions now need to be answered over the next few weeks.
Will they trade or sign Ladd? Will they trade or sign Byfuglien? Will the Jets decide that they are indeed sellers and start preparing for next season, or will they try to take one more belated run at a playoff spot?
Here at JetsNation Air Mail we also have questions that get answered. You can have your questions answered by sending us an @ mention to JetsNation on Twitter with the tag #JNAirMail. You can also send us a DM on that same Twitter account, you can leave a message on our Facebook page, or you can send an e-mail to JNAirMail@shaw.ca.
Mark asks: If Kyle Connor was draft eligible this year, would he be considered a possible first overall pick?
Kyle has been putting up numbers with Michigan that are slightly better than the numbers Jack Eichel did with Boston University.
I don’t know if he would usurp Auston Matthews as the potential 1st overall pick because while Kyle is putting up great numbers in Michigan, Auston is doing what he’s doing in Switzerland against fully grown pros in the National League. It’s possible he’d be a top 3 pick, but Patrik Laine and Jesse Puljujarvi had a fantastic showing at the World Juniors for Finland and again they are playing in the Finnish Liiga which is fantastic for their pro development.
Not a knock against the NCAA or the Big Ten and their level of play of course, but that will be the perception by many.
Or at least it would be if Kyle was in the draft this year. Thankfully he is not and Jets fans can look forward to him getting a very serious by the Jets look this fall.
Mennoknight427 asks: Which 2016 UFA should the Jets target to supplement their bottom six?
Well that Steven Stamkos guy could be ok in the Jets bottom six could he not?
In all seriousness guys like David Jones, Tuomo Ruutu, Troy Brouwer or Paul Gaustad would be solid depth guys, although I don’t know if they would be players that you could trust to move up in the lines should injuries happen.
Players like Teddy Purcell or Loui Eriksson would be fantastic additions that could also move up to a top six role should injuries happen, but if there is no room for them in the top six, would they accept a bottom six role, and even if they do would the asking price they would demand be reasonable for the Jets to spend on a 3rd or 4th line forward?
We’d certainly love to hear from all of you on who you would like the Jets to bring in this summer.. Make sure to let us know in the comments or letting us know over Twitter!
The last few weeks have been damning proof that the Jets are woefully thin on the bottom six lines which gets exposed even more with the injuries to players like Stafford and Scheifele. Ideally the Jets would be looking to learn their lesson from last summer when they let very strong bottom six players walk away, and bring in a couple of free agents to supplement and support their two lines.
Sadly, the bottom line here is that I just don’t think they will and instead will try to get by again with the likes of Thorburn and unproven kids. I’m hoping the Jets prove me wrong there.
