Jets re-assign 17 players: No surprises

Oct 1, 2016, 15:21 EDTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
The Winnipeg Jets have moved a little closer to assembling their roster for the 2016-2017 as they have trimmed 17 players from their training camp. The Jets are now down to 25 forwards, 13 defenceman and four goaltenders with 12 days remaining until opening night.
The most noticeable name among the causalities is Patrice Cormier. Cormier, 26, used to be the Jets go-to call up when in need of a body up front. Those days are over as the Moose will be stocked with young talent that will be ready in a whim and can provide offense as opposed to the Thorburn-esque “grit” Cormier brought to the table.
None of the cuts should come as much of a surprise. Those assigned to junior were never really considered to be vying for spots at camp and those assigned to the Moose were better served to get a head start at Moose camp then stick around at main camp.
The Jets next pre season game is tomorrow night in Calgary with an 8:00 PM CT puck drop.
