It was a great late Sunday afternoon (or early Sunday evening) and the Winnipeg Jets came to play. Unfortunately for the Avalanche, their team didn’t arrive until much later; they allowed an ugly 4 goals in the second period and ultimately loss the game 5 to 3.

Top Guns – With the Jets depth decimated, the team knew their best players had to be their best, and boy did they. The Ladd-Little-Wheeler line did pretty well while matching up against the Avs top lines and pairs, which left the rest to be picked apart by the trio of Dustin Byfuglien, Mark Scheifele, and Mathieu Perreault.

The Jets second line combined for 8 points, 11 even strength scoring chances, and posted a Corsi of +10 as a line. This line was tenacious on the forecheck, keeping the Avs on their heals and in their own zone.

Less penalties than thou  – The Jets gave up less power play opportunities than their opponents for a pleasant change.

The Jets enjoyed a man-advantage for 6.8 minutes and scored two goals. The first power play goal came off of a Byfuglien tip, doing his best impersonation of Chicago Buff against the Vancouver Canucks. The second came from a beauty snap shot from the always underrated Bryan Little.

To be honest, a win against the Colorado Avalanche isn’t ground breaking. Ondrej Pavelec’s 0.893 save percentage isn’t going to beat too many teams either.
