The Winnipeg Jets are now seventeen games into their 2026-27 NHL regular season following a Thursday night showdown against the Vancouver Canucks. The Jets were fresh off their epic comeback win against the Canadiens on Tuesday (which ended the Jets nine game losing streak), and they used that momentum to pick up a big win against the team at the bottom of the NHL league standings. Today marks the Jets second day off in a row as they prepare for a busy week ahead with four games.
Before looking ahead to the Jets next four games, we need to quickly look back at how the Jets won their 2nd straight game on Tuesday night. After a few games where the Jets trailed early, it was the Jets’ turn to jump ahead early in the 1st period. Alex Iafallo opened the scoring on the powerplay less than four minutes after puck drop, and Cole Koepke doubled the Jets lead just 14 seconds later.
Liam Ohgren got the Canucks on the board a little under three minutes later, but Dawson Mercer scored his 1st goal of the season (and as a Jet) late in the 1st to give the Jets a 3-1 lead. After a strong opening twenty minutes, the Jets continued their scoring ways in the 2nd, with a pair of goals. Neal Pionk notched his 4th goal of the season followed by Mark Scheifele’s 3rd goal of the season. Viggo Bjork finally picked up his first career NHL point with a secondary assist on Scheifele’s one handed goal.
The Jets continued to cruise into the 3rd period, and Mario Ferraro’s 2nd goal of the season made it a 6-1 Jets lead with nine minutes remaining. Stuart Skinner had a very solid game in goal, and only one other shot went past him as Brock Boeser made it 6-2 with five minutes remaining. Final score 6-2 Jets, with the final shots on goal 29-26 for the Jets.
Now with two straight wins under their belt, the Jets will try to extend their win streak with another home game on Sunday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Jets are now almost back in the mix for a wild card spot in the Western Conference, and the Lightning are currently 3rd place in a very talented Atlantic Division.
After Sunday night’s game the Jets will stay in Winnipeg for a game that a lot of people have circled on their calendars. Tuesday night the Devils are in Winnipeg, as Connor Hellebuyck makes his return to Winnipeg for the first time since his trade request. Less notably, Dawson Mercer will make his first appearance against the team that drafted him back in 2020. We’ve seen Brady Tkachuk’s return to Ottawa and Quinn Hughes’ return to Vancouver, now we’ll see how Jets fans react to Hellebuyck being in goal for the opposing team.
Following this highlighted matchup on Tuesday, the Jets will hit the road for two road games against Central Division opponents. Thursday night the Jets will be in Dallas to take on a Stars team that’s had an up and down start to their season. One week from today the Jets will be in Chicago to take on a Blackhawks team that finds themselves once again near the bottom of the NHL league standings. Puck drop for this game will be at 3:30 pm CT, and it’ll be a good chance for the Jets to pick another much needed win as they attempt to turn around their season after their recent nine game losing streak.
