Even though award season doesn’t begin for another few months, that hasn’t stopped the NHL from preparing for those same accolades, as the league revealed this season’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy nominees on Tuesday.
Since all 31 organizations receive a nominee, captain @Blake Wheeler has earned the right to represent the Winnipeg Jets regarding this award, which is given to the player who displays the best leadership qualities on and off the ice, and who has also made a major humanitarian contribution within his community.
Serving as the Jets’ leader on and off the ice, Wheeler is certainly well-deserving of this nomination, especially since his charity, “Ride Inside: Come Wheel with the Wheelers,” has raised thousands of dollars over the last few years in support of children and their families living with and beyond childhood cancer.
The winner of this award will be chosen at a later date by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
