Jets defeat Habs 3-1 on Hockey Day in Canada

Feb 18, 2017, 18:44 ESTUpdated: Invalid DateTime
Here’s all you need to know about today’s matinee between the Jets and the Habs on Hockey Day in Canada.
Game Notes
- The Jets penalty kill was a real bright spot today. Going 4/4 on the penalty kill (along with a beauty shorthanded goal by Joel Armia) isn’t easy to do on the road.
- Dustin Byfuglien deserves a round of applause. Throughout the year, he’s been a workforce for the club while leading the league in ice-time per game with 27:25 minutes per game.
- Mathieu Perreault had himself a game tonight. Number 85 scored the game-winning goal tonight and raised his trade value in the process. There’s a good chance the Jets are getting calls on Perreault as the deadline approaches and with games like tonight, teams will continue to spitball trade proposals with Kevin Cheveldayoff. But despite his value as a middle-six winger, Perreault has a four-year deal kicking in next season and that’s a longer commitment than most teams would like to make at the deadline.
- Patrik Laine scored his 28th goal of the season tonight and it isn’t totally far-fetched to think the 18-year-old could reach the 40-goal plateau. The Jets have 21 games remaining and Laine would have to score 12 games in that span, which is more than do-able for the Finnish sniper.
- The most impressing thing to watch tonight was the pairing of Josh Morrissey and Jacob Trouba. Those two feed off each other quite well and the young defenders rarely look frazzled against other teams top units.
