After capturing their first win of the 2020-21 campaign on Thursday night, the Winnipeg Jets didn’t waste any time adding some additional depth to their goaltending position.
On Friday, the Jets reportedly claimed goaltender @Anton Forsberg off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes – who placed him on waivers on Thursday.
Originally placed on waivers earlier this week by the Edmonton Oilers, Forsberg was claimed by the Hurricanes and they immediately started shopping him to any interested teams. But after failing to find a paying customer, the 28-year old was sent back on the waiver wire.
Now with the Jets, the 6-foot-3 netminder is slated to serve as their No. 3 goalie and can’t be added to their taxi squad unless he’s sent through waivers once again.
Over his three games with the Hurricanes last season, Forsberg performed to a 1-1-0 record, producing a 3.35 goals-against average, .897 save percentage, and stopped 70 of the 78 shots he faced.
Winnipeg is scheduled to begin the first game of a back-to-back against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 18.
