Just as the trade deadline expired today, the Winnipeg Jets have traded a 2018 fourth round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Joe Morrow.
A 25 year old left handed defenseman, Morrow has played 38 games for the Montreal Canadiens, picking up five goals and 11 points this season. He’s known as a strong, quick skater and maybe not the best in his own end of things when it comes to defending, but a puck mover who can help add to a team’s offense.
The trade will allow the Jets to send Tucker Poolman down to the AHL to allow him to have valuable playing experience as that team gets ready for a Calder Cup run while giving the Jets some insurance with a capable NHL defenseman who can come down from the press box if the need comes up.
Morrow was a member of the Boston Bruins for the last three seasons – he was a part of the Tyler Seguin to Dallas trade back in 2013 – and spent time between the big club and the AHL. He did however play five playoff games with the Bruins last season and by all accounts had respectable showings which lead to a free agent one year deal with Montreal during the summer.
