ICYMI: Hellebuyck Now Has Record(s) For Most Wins In A Season

Last night’s 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils was Connor Hellebuyck’s 35th win of the season.

It’s been a remarkable campaign for the 24 year old netminder who a year ago was facing questions from media and fans alike on if he was truly the best option for the Winnipeg Jets going forward. Now, he has a place in hockey history.

Two places actually.

You see his 35th win of the season sets a new franchise record as he passed Kari Lehtonen’s 34 win mark, set back in the 2006-07 season back when the team was based out of Atlanta and known as the Thrashers.

For those of you who don’t care to acknowledge the presence of Atlanta hockey history with anything in this current era of Jets hockey, you’ll be happy to note that Hellebuyck also holds the record for most wins in a single season within the awkward category of “Winnipeg NHL Franchise history” as his 35 wins passes the mark of 33 set by both Bryan Hayward in 1984-85 and Bob Essensa in 1992-93.

So no matter how you look at it, Connor Hellebuyck’s 2017-18 season has been a record setting one. Which record you wish to acknowledge is totally up to you.

(But officially, in the NHL’s eyes, the record was 34 set by a goalie with the Atlanta Thrashers. Another Thrashers record is dead, long live the Thrashers)
