Evgeny Malkin won’t have disciplinary hearing for questionable hit on Blake Wheeler

In the third period of yesterday’s game between the Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Penguins, Evgeny Malkin crushed Blake Wheeler with a questionable hit. As you can see in the slowed down video above, Malkin clearly left his feet, targeted the head of Wheeler, and, most obviously, hit the Jets captain when he didn’t have the puck.
Wheeler went to the quiet room for concussion protocol, but did return to the ice to finish the game. He isn’t expected to miss any time with an injury from the hit.
Despite this, the NHL determined the play was not worthy of discipline. Malkin received an interference call on the play, and was also given a roughing penalty along with Mark Stuart for the altercation that happened immediately after (shown below).
