According to Sara Orlesky, the Winnipeg Jets have recalled Brenden Kichton from Manitoba of the AHL on an emergency basis, and have moved Brandon Tanev from an emergency recall to a regular one, meaning he’ll be added to the 23-man roster. Though he hasn’t been placed on the injured reserve, it’s assumed Kichton was added to the team to compensate for a Dustin Byfuglien injury.
The Jets have had a rough time with injuries this season, and that was compounded in Thursday’s night’s loss to the Kings. Dustin Byfuglien left the game in the third period with an undisclosed injury after a collision with Kings forward Jeff Carter. With just a handful of games left in the season and the Jets essentially out of playoff contention, the team may consider shutting their start defenceman down for the rest of the year, especially considering the workload he’s had this season, as he’s averaged more than 27 minutes a game, the most time in his career.
At this time, nobody has been placed on the injured reserve.
