The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Derek Forbort to a one-year contract.
The signing was first broken by TSN’s Darren Dreger.
Forbort will be paid $1-m for the deal and is coming off a 20-game season with the Calgary Flames and LA Kings last year. In those games, he scored one assist.
In the playoffs, he appeared in 10 games for the Flames scoring one goal and an assist. A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Forbort was drafted in the first round of the 2010 draft and has appeared in 275 NHL games scoring five goals and 53 points.
According to hockeyviz.com, Forbort brought league average offence last season and defence at a six percent rate above league average.
